Artist Dan Walsh Artwork and paintings at the Saatchi Gallery
Author: Amit
Dan Walsh large paintings exude a quirky brand of minimalism. In Red Diptych II Walsh presents two canvases of his artificial grid of the same palette: the left panel composed of solid blocks, the right of concentric squares. Using the multiplicity of this geometric form, Walsh paints build an architecture fantasy: their componentised repetition suggests infinite expansion, haunting each square with the mesmerizing glow of electric transmission. Created optical illusions of gravity and weightlessness, Walsh's paintings matched in other words their perspectival deception as their flat surfaces appear to advance and fall simultaneously.
Echoes the works of Dan Walsh, with an understated authority. Painted with a virgin delicacy, arrangement Walsh uses the strength of the composition checkered to create an abstract sense of space. Divided by a grid of translucent dark lines liminal, its square are lined with concentric bands of warm color intensity, weighted by their base, with streaks of blue steel. Delivered by hand, waivers Walsh geometric composition with the imperfection of unease: Apparently straight edges and a subtle bow string with the undulating movement, creating a reverberant field tessellated disorientation.
Current exhibition Dan Walsh at Paula Cooper Gallery, Chelsea, large-scale canvases are hung well below eye level. In the 1980s, Soho Alan Uglow made it a point to position his paintings below eye level, a movement which not only added a sense of gravity to maintain them, but reflects the position of abstract painting at that time as being below the radar. Walsh is not the only painter to respond to Uglow's influence.Walsh still struggling to make a painting in this body of work as it solves the problems so familiar So strange that open up new areas for investigation. Lots of bright colors are placed in subtle and complex relationships with each other to create a light in the fields below them. It is a fact that gives rise to the feeling that the point of entry in Walsh painting is from within, to be found by following the light from the luminous matter in hand than with the structure established on the surface of the painting.

Aja $2.48 History gives Steely Dan’s Walter Becker and Donald Fagen the last, hearty laugh on this, the crown jewel in their remarkable canon of ’70s Mensa pop. Sneaking onto the charts a half-decade earlier with sinuous, jazz-inflected “rock,” the dysfunctional duo’s acerbic, anti-heroic visions had been critically lauded for their band identity and killer guitar riffs, then promptly challenged when the t… |

VH1 – Storytellers Classics [VHS] $12.98 Recommended more for quality of live performance than for storytelling, VH1 Storytellers: Classics is a seven-song compilation from the popular VH1 series, bearing all the strengths and weaknesses inherent in the program. Some of the featured musicians are fine raconteurs, and the format of the show encourages them to share the genesis of their best-known songs. Pete Townshend explains that t… |

Steely Dan – Two Against Nature [VHS] $10.00 Having discreetly disbanded at the dawn of the MTV era, the 1970s’ most stubbornly faceless pop subversives returned after 19 years with their first new studio album, followed in short order by this stunning long-form video project. Part concert, part documentary, Steely Dan: Two Against Nature offers a savvy cross-section of both old and new material performed by the latest incarnation of the for… |

Classic Albums – Steely Dan: Aja [VHS] $12.98 This profile of Steely Dan’s elegant 1977 masterpiece, Aja, is a feast for Dan fans, a thoughtful, satisfyingly detailed assessment of the album and its bejeweled fusion of jazz, R&B, rock, and pop. Better yet, the documentary’s producers elicit atypically straightforward, revealing interviews from the group’s stealthy principals, songwriters Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, who jettison enough of… |
